Best counter-depth refrigerator I could find.

January 24, 2024I have only had this refrigerator for a couple of weeks but I really like it considering it’s a counter depth appliance. This new fridge replaced a twenty-year-old GE Arctic side by side with custom panels which looked great but had multiple problems with the ice dispenser located on the door. This time I knew I did not want ice or water in the door as these appliances have more problems long-term (especially on the french door models).
The led lighting on my new GE is much improved-you can easily see/find items on the shelves. And, because of the french door layout there is more room than my previous fridge. I also like the matt black finish a lot more than I thought I would-it doesn’t show fingerprints unlike my black stainless dishwasher. One down side is the glass shelves-for the price they should be sturdier. This is a higher end product-but compared to my old GE this new fridge is made a lot flimsier-and the workmanship is sloppy. I can see at the edges a little white at the seams-which I believe is insulation-I used a black magic marker to color the white black so it looks ok, but quality control is poor. In closing let’s just say needing a counter-depth fridge (that is black) and fits my custom cut opening left me with options. I research everything I buy so I knew not to buy the appliances that start with the letter S or L. This left me with even fewer options….but my old GE Arctic lasted twenty years so I would be stupid if I bought anything else. Bottom line: so far it’s a good fridge but it’s new. I can only hope it lasts as long as the last one. I would buy this refrigerator again.

April 27, 2024Long review - but full of needed information if you're shopping around.
I have admired the appearance of the refrigerator for years and always said when it was time to get a new refrigerator, the Cafe brand would be the one I got. We also have a GE Cafe induction stove that I absolutely love...so I wanted to match the two appliances, but I figured since I loved the stove so much, I just knew I would love the refrigerator the same.
Not. So. Much. I do love the look, but if you are a family that meal preps or you just need a lot of room, period, this is NOT the appliance for you. The way the shelves are made with unnecessary bars and curves to support the shelves, it makes it to where you lose space that you would need to stack 3 containers. It may not seem like a big deal, but trust me, it IS a big deal now that I need more room. My last refrigerator could accommodate a medium size pizza box - this model cannot as the door will not close.
The water dispenser is on the inside - which I love - BUT it is on wall of the refrigerator, not the door. This makes it to where you need to open both doors if you are over 120lbs and you need to use both hands to hold the glass and push the very tight button. This is a very "first world problem", yes....but at $3,700, it should be far more convenient. The freezer - I can't get over how little room the freezer has - luckily, we have two outdoor freezers or else we would likely be selling this refrigerator. I also do not like how the ice tray inside the top drawer is completely uncovered. My last refrigerator ice maker was covered other than the area that the ice drops through. One more thing that may be important to some to know; the front panels are non-magnetized, so you if you like hanging things on the frig, that is a no-go - the side, however, is magnetized. Overall, it is a beautiful appliance with an industrial look. But if you want ROOM, either size up to the largest size or keep shopping.

April 29, 2024Horrible fridge. If I could give zero stars I would. We are on our 5th cafe refrigerator. The first fridge we had delivered was damaged, they noticed while unpacking it and put it back on the delivery truck. The second fridge, the fridge and freezer would randomly get warm. We would have the temperature set to 37 degrees and the fridge would get up to 60 degrees. So, RC Willy said they would just replace it. We got the third one, but it was damaged and didn’t make it into our house. A fourth one was delivered damaged and didn’t make it into our house. We finally got a fifth one that wasn’t damaged, that worked for a few months, but then same thing, fridge and freezer would not keep temperature…we had the fridge set at 37 degrees but it would get up to 60 degrees. The freezer would get up to 37 degrees. GE technicians have been out twice to try and fix it. First fix was replacing the board…that fixed the freezer, but the fridge stays at 60 degrees and the crisper drawer is at freezing. Second fix was the fan…that didn’t fix anything, same problem exists, freezer works but fridge is 60 degrees and crisper drawer is freezing. Now we have to wait another week for the technician to come out again. 2 weeks without a fridge with a family of 6 is beyond frustrating. What sucks even more is we are kind of locked into this fridge. It is the only fridge that matches the other cafe appliances we bought. So we either get a totally different looking fridge that works and the esthetic of our kitchen looks like crap or we get all new appliances again, which is an expense we can’t afford after already buying all new cafe appliances. I do not recommend this fridge at all. I’ve never had a fridge not work, let alone a brand new, expensive one.

September 24, 2024GE, Home Depot and Lowes all use the same third party delivery company where I live. No in house GE trained delivery and install employees. I have had several bad experiences with the third party delivery. They do not have moving pads to protect your floors or entrance to your home. They use a handcart and forcefully roll it over your door threshold. They are not trained on how to attach the water and ice connection to the refrigerator. The new refrigerator righthand door’s gasket is too big and the delivery person told me the refrigerator was defective. What a mess dealing with untrained people. He told me I needed to order a replacement refrigerator. All I need is a gasket that fits. He also told me the refrigerator couldn’t be pushed all the back in the custom cabinet. After the delivery people left I pushed the refrigerator out and carefully attached the water ice connection to the back of the refrigerator and pushed the refrigerator back all the way into the custom cabinet. It looks great! GE should have trained GE delivery and install employees. If a customer spends $3,500 for a refrigerator they should offer white glove service. They do not unpack and install the inside drawers and the online appliance manual does not show you where the drawers go, It’s a horrible customer service experience. I also think that a customer should be able to select the door handles without having to pay $500.00 or more this should be included with the refrigerator price. I had to pay extra for the brass handles. Making the refrigerator’s price $4,000. Plus I had to pay for the delivery. The refrigerator is not anything special or a wow factor. The inside is almost identical to my 2012 GE Profile that the mother board and compressor went out 3 times.
